Our Directors

Here is a bit about each of us. Next time you come out to one of our fundraisers, please be sure to stop and say hello.

Carol Jackson- President/ Treasurer

Carol's Demi

Carol grew up with dogs...a Welsh Springer X and a Dachshund...and a couple Lhasa Apsos that her mother loved. As she grew up, she gravitated to wards any dog that she met, big or small, gentle or aggressive.

In 1989 she and her husband adopted a five year old cocker spaniel named Buie. Buie was an extraordinary dog who was an ambassador for her breed.

Since Buie's death from cancer at age 11 1/2 in 1995, the house has never been without a cocker spaniel. Buie holds a place in Carol's heart that has developed into a love for the breed.

Carol has dabbled in conformation with two of her dogs obtaining their Canadian Championship titles. Demi, her senior female has won Best Veteran three years in a row at the BC Cocker Spaniel Specialty Show in Cloverdale BC. After that, she worked with Demi on obtaining her Canine Good Citizen Certificate (CGN) through the CKC.

Working full time as a nurse at the BCNurseline , she has her hands full with her husband, canine family, and rescue.

Sherida Harris- Vice President

Fergus

“Sherida grew up with a succession of cocker spaniels and loves the breed. She went without a dog for decades until one day her daughter persuaded her to go to the Surrey pound. Soon after a beautiful young tri-coloured boy named Happi became part of the family. Initially terrified of men and trucks, his wagging tail and playful personality soon emerged as his dominant characteristics and he won over many hearts before he passed at the grand old age of 16 or 17.

A house without a cocker is not a home and a few months later, Fergus was adopted from CSRBC. When she retired from Labour Relations work, Sherida became aware that CSRBC needed foster homes and decided to help out. Recently, she joined the board to provide some relief for the other board members.”

Sandra-Secretary Director

Sandra grew up in Guyana , South America with 5 outdoor dogs. After emigrating to Canada , it was several years before her husband Orin rescued an American Cocker spaniel – Shugz. Shugz was found at the side of the highway by a trucker and Orin became her owner when the trucker could no longer keep her.

After Shugz’ sudden passing in October 2006, they became the proud owners of 8-year old Pim (from CSRBC). Today, Pim is joined by 1-year old Sassy (another recent adoption from CSRBC). Sandra recently became a volunteer for CSRBC. In her “day” job, she is employed by CMBC (public transit in the lower mainland) in Human Resources.

Lynne Sturm- Director at Large

Lynne has a long history of caring for strays of all kinds of fur and feather. Over the years Lynne has cared for animals that no one else wanted and who often times" just showed up one day." The list includes a sheep, pony, turkey, a horse, chickens, ducks, a rabbit, several cats and even some pigs. Of late there are even resident deer that call Lynne’s property and garden their home.

Lynne and her husband have always had dogs many of which arrived because their owners didn’t want them any longer. For the past several years Lynne has been a part of ‘Cocker Rescue’. Many an elderly unwanted Cocker has found his/her way to Lynne’s house and, due to old age and medical needs, has lived out its life under Lynne’s care.

Many Cockers have been fostered by Lynne and adopted out after shedding a few pounds, adding a few pounds or getting a medical condition under control.

Life at Lynne’s house is never boring. There is always a new story and an abundance of happiness found only from the love given to and gotten from her K9 Cocker friends.

Carolyn Azar-Director-Fundraising Co-ordinator

Emma

After years of having dogs in her younger years, Carolyn was looking to adopt a new dog in 2001. She checked the Vancouver SPCA daily for a dog that suited her for apartment living, with 2 cats, and after a month saw “Mandy”. Mandy was a big matted mess and wasn’t ready to be adopted yet, as she had to be spayed.

So Carolyn did some research on the breed, and this is when she came across the CSRBC website. Carol helped with information on cockers and Carolyn decided this was the dog for her. So after ensuring Mandy was groomed before being spayed, and waiting for 10 days she was Carolyn’s.

Now known as Emma, she is a very happy, spoiled, demanding cocker who has had many foster brothers come through her home, one of which we kept – Rocky (who passed away in Aug 2011 from lymphoma). Now ‘Ben the Giant Cocker’ has come from CSRBC to us and is slowly learning the ropes and settling into his new home. Carolyn was previously on the board of CSRBC and helped to obtain our registered charity status in 2003 and has rejoined the board as Fundraising Co-orindator.
